Just took the Goldwing to get new tyres (Avon Venom's) fitted at Watling tyres Catford SE6 and discovered that the rear is out of alignment and the existing tyre is rubbing slightly on the swinging arm. The guys there seem to think that whoever changed the tyre last time must have left a spacer out on the offside as there appears to be no form of adjustment. They suggested I go to a Honda main dealer and buy every spacer that should be fitted so that when I take it back they have a fighting chance of fitting it properly.
Has anyone ever come across this before on a shaft drive?
However they did replace the front tyre and the difference is amazing! no more wobbles and its a a lot more stable when trickling along. the old one was flat spotted and was found to have cracks inside the tread grooves, I would suspect that it was fitted quite some time ago as the bike has done about 44,000 miles.
I don't think a shaft drive would preclude the use of/need for, spacers. I reckon that the Goldwing tech site is the best place to get an answer - eg.,
Completley unrelated Alan but how much did they charge you for fitting as I was going to go to Watling tyres in Dartford for my Dunlops but I was just gunna take the loose wheels but if they didnt charge to much I may aswell ride there and wait

I have no idea Nic, I just asked "how much?" Picked myself up off the floor and said "do it"
Been into Watling's in Dartford once...watched them fling a GSX on its side...they don't have a bike ramp there (or at least didn't two years ago). So didn't bother to wait...! I always take the bike to Sidcup Motorcycle Tyres now.
The guys in Catford were good, refused to remove the tyre till I worked out why it was rubbing on the swinging arm. They could have just changed it and said nothing. maybe it's because their an MOT station.
Just checked out sidcup tyres, looks pretty good so I think I'll go there, although I saw the hall of shame, I look after my bike so I don't wanna end up on there
